I really believe it’s important for candidates and voters during any election to have time to talk one-on-one about issues or concerns. During the 2010 Edmonton election, candidates began using social media to reach out to the electorate and there was many interesting discussions online. That prompted me to organize Politweetup, a tweetup where 80 people, including municipal and school board candidates, had a chance to meet each other in a casual and relaxed setting.
Since it went over so well three years ago, I’ve decided to organize it again. With the success of Meet the Media, the Underground Tap and Grill jumped on board to host Politweetup on Sunday, October 6 at 6 p.m.
Here’s where I need your help. Not many candidates will know what a tweetup is and understand why they should even bother attending Politweetup during their busy campaigning schedule. I do plan to invite all municipal and school board candidates but I still need encouragement and enthusiasm on your part.
Tweet the candidates and invite them. Let them know to save the date. Have them understand why you would love them to attend Politweetup. Let’s continue the engagement of #yegvote at the October 6 tweetup.
Update: Here’s the link for tickets to the event.
